Campaign Launch
This campaign began on 18th May 2009 with a survey of local residents. This was followed by a press advert that aimed to raise anticipation among the residents that were going to be involved in the trial. It also explained that the food waste would be used to make compost at a specialist local facility.
You may remember seeing this advert in the Huntly Express, Press & Journal (North East edition), and the Banffshire Journal.
Current Scheme Information
Currently 7,500 households in Aberdeenshire have been provided with a food waste recycling container, into which residents can place the following:
- Dairy products
- Fruit and vegetables
- Beans, pasta and rice
- Bread, cakes and pastries
- Meat and fish, including bones
- Tea bags and coffee grounds
Part of the campaign involves the delivery of leaflets, which provide further details of the scheme. The leaflet aims to answer questions such as ‘why collect food waste?’
