Battery Recycling in Aberdeenshire

Did you know that we use approximately 41 million batteries in Scotland each year, the vast majority of these are sent to landfill. This is such a waste of valuable natural resources.

Battery Recycling Scheme
Urban householders in Aberdeenshire can recycle used and unwanted household batteries as part of their kerbside collection scheme.

Batteries accepted include:
  • All AA and AAA batteries
  • C and D batteries
  • Button batteries (from watches or hearing aids)
  • Mobile phone batteries
  • Laptop batteries
Car and other vehicle batteries should be taken to your local recycling centre. You can search for your nearest recycling centre on Sort-It.

Households have been provided with a household battery collection bag for you to store all your used or unwanted household batteries. Once the bag is full securely seal it and place it in your recycling box with your other recyclable materials. Please do not place batteries loose inside your recycling box. The collection crews wear safety gloves and this makes it difficult to pick up such small items.

Replacement bags are available at your local Recycling Centre or you can order them by phoning Aberdeenshire Council’s recycling helpline on 0845 600 3 900.

If you would like to know more about the scheme, please contact Aberdeenshire council on the above number or visit their website.

Don’t have a kerbside scheme for batteries?
