On average your baby will need between 4,000 and 6,000 nappy changes until they are potty trained. However, if you choose to use reusable cloth nappies, you will only need between 25 and 30 nappies.
About the Project
The Grampian Real Nappy Project aims to increase the awareness and use of reusable nappies amongst parents and health professionals and to divert nappy waste from landfill. Not only are reusable nappies good for your baby’s health, they also reduce the amount of waste we need to send to landfill and can save you money. The project is run by Aberdeen Forward.
Trial packs
The Grampian Real Nappy Project has a limited supply of lending kits which are available to Aberdeen City residents to try. Each pack consists of nappies, wraps and liners.

Top tips for parents
Babies can be expensive. You can save money and help reduce waste by reducing, reusing and recycling.
Reduce - the number of toys that you need to buy by joining a toy library.
Reuse – Babies grow so quickly, why not donate and / or purchase pre-loved baby clothes and equipment. You can find reuse outlets (e.g. Charity shops) on our
Sort-It website.
Recycle – Worn out baby clothes, blankets and bedding can all be recycled. You can find your nearest recycling centre or point on our Sort-It website.
